I have a fairly large bowl that I have almost finished out of a piece of crotch red elm that has a large void with some bark inclusion. The void is approximately 5" long and 1" wide at its widest point. My question is, can I use PR to fill the void without pressure/vacuum? I know that epoxy is used in this manner sometimes, but at the moment I don't have that much epoxy and I do have some Silmar. Will it work?

I believe that shrinkage will be a significant problem. I know they have problems when they cast worthless wood blanks with pr pulling back from the wood. Most recomend Alumilite for that type of application

That makes sense now that I think about it, I know that it shrinks quite a bit in my molds.

Thanks for the quick response and opening my eyes to a detail I failed to see. I guess a trip to the store is in my future...
