My Dad just gave me his Gast vacuum pump so I can start stabilizing. I would like to change the oil before using the pump. I found some Mobil vacuum pump oil, any reason I should not use it? Any recommendations? Thanks Brian

Ive never seen a Gast pump that had any oil in it, they were all carbon vane oilless pumps. Can you post a picture of it so we can be sure what you have?

The Gast oil pumps do need only certain types of oil. I have never changed the oil in mine but your post is prompting me to check if it needs it. The Gast owners manual may be online, I would check that out before doing anything. BTW, the Gast, by design, does need to be rebuilt periodically. When pulling solvent through it (planned) wear and damage occur.
