I'd say that's a pretty successful first.
The color is too dull for my taste but that's all preference. Plus I'm more of a Chevy guy. Haha The cast looks right!

Love the look of turned pinecone,but that blue does not compliment them.Nice job on the turning though.

I agree that that shade of Blue is dull (but it's a trial run!). And more pine cones; possibly break they up and have more visable pieces. Ot smoosh them together for a greater density.
A more vibrant Blue would add a lot. (i.e. sky Blue, Sea Water Blue...).
BUT... The pen still looks very nice! A great Beta Test!

I prefer a transparent coloration so you get to see more of the cones.

Looks like you are off to a good start.
I prefer them with Pearlex colors though, gives the blank some depth.

I'm a Chevy guy too. I actually bought that color to highlight a Fiero intake manifold I polished. I think that I have come to the conclusion that powder is not a good way to color alumilite. The color dose not "pop" the way I would like, and it's impossible to remove all the clumps. I guess I'll have to break down and buy the alumilite dyes.

Like others said you need to try a dye that will give you some transparency and depth...
I also like putting in some pearlescent to give it a little shimmer/glitter...
Just remember to paint the inside of the blank & tube so the brass wont show...

Looks like you are definitely getting the hang of it. I didn't see anything wrong with the blue but hey, it is my favorite color. Especially if it had been UK blue for the Wildcats .... lol. But, that does bring to mind a question which is, can you do that with sea shells too? Living in Pensacola, FL with some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the world means that I have an abundant supply of sea shells even very tiny one at hand. My wife is constantly picking interesting little shells up on our outings to the beach. Oh yeah, I should head to the beach.
