AUCTION: Blanks, Blocks, Burls COMPLETE

This auction will start off with a nice box of Blanks, Burls, and Blocks, AND will be sweetened at least a couple times along the way with a few surprises. (Additional items will be listed in the post below this one...)

Here's the basic box (descriptions below):

  • Chonta Quiro Section - 8 1/2" x 3" (D). (Note: I believe the Pith was drilled out, but not positive as it is in old shrinkwrap. The best guess from me is this is from Peru (or possibly another Amazon region. I have not found anything in the available resources, other than "Chonta Quiro" maybe a region in Peru.)
  • Pomelle Sapelle - 3/4" x 10"
  • Pomelle Bubinga - 1 1/8" x 6 3/4"
  • Mystery Burl - Approximately 3" x 4" x 5"
  • Jarrah Burl Block - 2" x 7" x 7"
  • African Blackwood (heartwood/sapwood) - 1 1/2" x 2" x 15"; 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" x 15"
  • Black Mesquite Block - 3" x 5" x 5"

Custom Chevron Blank Set

Mark James will make the winning bidder a custom Chevron Blank Set. See his description in the post below. THANKS MARK!

Huang Huali Pen Blank
attachment.php

This blank came to Mark James, from OKLAHOMAN, who got it from DCBluesman. I don't have more information than that, other than such blanks have commanded some pretty astronomical prices here over the years. If you search around the site, you can find some discussions. Perhaps Mark can chime in below with more information.

All of this material came from the IAP Estate Blank Stash that I have been working down for IAP.

But I need to get rid of some other stuff... Hmnnn, what could I add. Suggestions?

More Awesomeness!!!

C'mon peoples!

Take a good look at what you're actually bidding on!

There are general references to the rarity of this species of wood, so judge for yourself. Evidently, used for high-end artistry in China in the 1500's, and if not extinct, very difficult to fins.

Here is a reference to tweak your interest: http://www.penturners.org/forum/f18/huanghuali-49844/

More ad-ons!!!

I will add a custom made Chevron Blank Set, with or without finial, in consultation with the highest bidder.

These are examples of what I will construct. Pre-tubed, or not; choice of woods and veneers from my stock, several design options. These are sets that were made for another IAP member. The first two are for a Jr Gent II with a Chevron finial inlay mounted on top of a dowel to be turned in a collet, the last was for a tube supplied for an older Marksman kit. (I can supply the finial preturned ready to be fitted in a Jr Gent top, or an assembled finial mounted on a dowel like below.:
