Welcome to the 2017 Summer Extravaganza Pen Box, Stand, Display, etc. Contest.
This contest is open to everyone. You are encouraged to think outside the box when designing and making your Box, Stand, Display, or other means of showing off a fine writing instrument.
Last year there were two separate contests, but this year they are combined into one - boxes, stands, displays, etc.
Entries will be accepted starting August 1st
Final date to submit an entry is August 27th by 11:59AM EDT, 10AM MDT, 8AM ADT (where I live). Not more than TWO entries per person please. Submit entries to the email address below only. Postings to this thread will mean disqualification.
The work product is to be the result work by of the presenter and cannot have been displayed or shown in other locations, social media, publications etc. The work product can be a new refinement, variation, or implementation on a design theme that is developing over time in other work products. That is: the submittal does not have to be a new, unique design.
In addition to the Universal Bash Guidelines, the contest rules are as follows:
1- The box, stand, display, etc should be made to hold and display at least one writing instrument, and not more than two writing instruments (a set).
2- Any materials and methods may be used in the construction of the box and should be readily available to anyone. CNC routers, 3D printers, and low power lasers are now low cost and common, and may be used. Products using 5 axis CNC Mills and similar exotic metal machinery will be disqualified. With allowing computer enhanced techniques, it is appropriate to also allow an additional manual collaboration by one additional person who adds enhancements such as calligraphy, painting, pyrography, carving, etc to the final product. The name of a collaborator and skill focus need be disclosed in the narriative submitted per #3.
3 - Submissions can have up to 3 photos not to exceed 1 megabytes each. A writing instrument or set of writing instruments may be included in one picture.
A narrative discussion should be included that contains no names or other identification of the submitter. The narrative discussion is your opportunity to present your concept and address the voting criteria of:
Creativity
Workmanship
Effectiveness in showing off the writing instrument(s)
Practicability (capability of being accomplished considering logistics)
If you use any of the "now fairly common" mechanical apprentices you are expected to disclose them in the narrative. Collaborative partner disclosure should be included here.
4-The entry work product may not have been posted anywhere before the August 27th deadline.
5- You may submit up to 2 entries in this contest. Each entry must be submitted on a separate entry form available here. Although you may submit 2 submittals, you can only win one prize.
6-The contest will close August 27th at 11:59pm EDT, 10 PM MDT, 8PM ADT.
7. Email your entry to kenvjuneau@gmail.com A separate email must be used for each entry. Pictures will be posted and a poll or polls will be taken to determine the winning 3 entries. Voting will last for 72 hours after posting the poll. Depending on the number of submissions, we may need to have more than 1 poll to select the winning Pen Box.
8- All entries will be posted at the same time following the contests deadline. This will give all entries the same time "in the spotlight".
