The pen kit picked out is a gunmetal Tiny Giant, it is dressed in an acrylic blank I received in a blank swap.
She picked the blank and kit, she marked where to cut the blank but I ran the saw. She started drilling and it was very close to the edge. I thought it was trash, but we continued and I'm glad we did. I held the parts to be glued and she applied it. I inserted the tube. I started the turning because I needed to make sure their would be no catches... I then walked her through turning, sanding and polishing only offering advice. We pulled it off the lathe and assembled, she did the pressing while I held everything straight. I took the photos, and she picked what she believed to be the best.

This pen kit picked out is a chrome Tiny Giant, it is dressed in one of the few blanks I have ever poured.
My daughter Picked out the blank and kit, I had her mark where to cut the blank but I operated the saw. I set up the drill press and she drilled the blank. As the ca glue is super messy I had her do the glueing but I held the blank and tube and inserted it. I then walked he through every step and of turning, sanding and polishing. I did have to step in and correct her a few times... I took the pictures and let her pick which ones to send.

My son, 5 years old, got to make his first pen. He has designed quite a few, but he's never actually made one. He cut the blank himself using a hack saw and miter box. He drilled it on the lathe. I held the chuck, but he drove the quill in and out. He reverse painted the blank and glued in the tube. The only part I really did was rough turn the blank to mostly round. My son did the finish turning with a carbide tool (I held the back end for safety reasons), and he sanded, polished, buffed and assembled. Now he's ready to make more!

This is a Long Clicker Kit with Zebra wood, pop can & Tulip Wood. The youth performed all of the work on the pen. The adult did a lot of coaching and supplied a few extra fingers as needed when gluing up the segments.

Dad helped her cut the blank on the band saw. She drilled the blank on the lathe, and painted the inside. The next day she glued the tube into the blank. Waited another day, and she squared the ends and trimmed the inside of the barrel. I helped her get the ends near the bushings and she worked the rest. She sanded and micromeshed the blank. I did the buffing on the buffing wheel, because she is small and would end up slinging it across the room. She and I pressed it together for her glow in the dark pen with a diamond.

WOW. These are all amazing. I am happy that pen turning is going to be around a few more years with talent like this.
