Numbe 3
This pen began life as a Kojent gunmetal and cobalt gold kit. I found the Kojent to be back heavy when posted, so I decided to eliminate the barrel finial. I increased the length of the blank by about 1/4" more than the length of the finial, drilled a hole equal to the required depth, and added a short brass tube segment for increased strength during turning. The wood is some old walnut that I bought when I lived in Melbourne Florida in 1975, and it has followed me around the Southeast these past 40 years. The pen was sanded through 400 grit, polished with pumice in paste wax, and finished with walnut oil in orange shellac [cut to 1#].
The final coloring makes it almost look like hard rubber, and the design is intended to approximate the old "flat top" pens by Parker and Sheaffer
