Custom Closed end cigar pen, with gold hardware, made from cactus juice stabilized koa. Designed my own pin check and assembled using an arbor press and the lathe. The end cap was machined on a metal lathe to remove the threading to ensure it would press into the closed end. The components not use where the clip and the screw on end cap, all other parts were utilized.

This pen was made using the Magnetic Graduate. I used a black pearl blank I eliminated the clip and back making it a closed ended pen. I added white corian to the ends. I drilled the blank all of the way through and then turned down some corian rods which I glued into the ends of the blank. The I proceeded to turn each blank down and finished it like I would any other pen.

This pen began life as a Kojent gunmetal and cobalt gold kit. I found the Kojent to be back heavy when posted, so I decided to eliminate the barrel finial. I increased the length of the blank by about 1/4" more than the length of the finial, drilled a hole equal to the required depth, and added a short brass tube segment for increased strength during turning. The wood is some old walnut that I bought when I lived in Melbourne Florida in 1975, and it has followed me around the Southeast these past 40 years. The pen was sanded through 400 grit, polished with pumice in paste wax, and finished with walnut oil in orange shellac [cut to 1#].

The final coloring makes it almost look like hard rubber, and the design is intended to approximate the old "flat top" pens by Parker and Sheaffer

My entry to the Advanced Kit contest is a Chrome Zen with a closed end. I used a pin chuck for the closed end drilling just deep enough to fit the tube and a little wiggle room for the spring. The closed body is made from stabilized and dyed Amboyna Burl from Robutacion. The finish is Pens Plus with a couple of coats of protective wax on top for a naturally feeling wood finish

"The Pen Ring Bowl is shown with permission of the owner. Her rings are shown. The pen body was constructed with coal black ebony and the strip of contrasting material was specified by the owner. Of alternatives of faux ivory, faux mastadon ivory, and others the faux casein was selected by the owner. The base is honey mesquite from the sawmill in Tubac Arizona scrap pile with an acrylic finish. The pen body is finished with walnut oil/CA finish.

Pen hardware is Ti Gold Baron. The cap finial and pen clip were not used. Center band and lower barrel hardware were used."

This is a closed-ended Baron fountain pen dressed in one of my own custom alumilite blanks. I also added a finial to the cap. I used the section from the kit as well as the clip.
