Default Smitty wins Auction #2!! Fairfield small vase

To kickoff the 2013 Bash AUCTIONS, we will have two going simultaneously!! This is the second

We all know Russ Fairfield was a master of wood finishes. If you had any questions, Russ was there to answer. He was an integral part in the founding of the IAP as his knowledge was certainly a "draw" to new members and a "library-level resource" to the more established penturners.

When Russ passed away, Jeff (IAP site owner) purchased several items to help support his family in those difficult times.

Now, Jeff is offering those items to IAP members!! Jeff intends to donate any profits above his initial investment BACK to the Fairfield family. So, we ask you to be generous in your bidding, knowing you are helping a fellow penmaker!!

The second item up for bid is a small "vase" design
This is described as a small vase or "weed pot"! It is approximately 4.25" by 2.75 inches wide. The 5/8" hole appears to be drilled, deep enough to support small flowers or spices. There is some tearout near the lip. The vessel is maple, as is verified by the handwritten "maple" on the base.

Jeff describes this as a small piece with a nice finish, that Jeff believes is a friction polish (widely used in that period).

As you can see, it has a very pleasant shape and could serve as a model for a piece you might like to turn.

Again, I would like a "starter bid" of $10 or better, please!!

This auction will close at 9 PM eastern time on Sunday, Feb 17
