Hi,
I was trying to find where I could post this and am hoping this is the appropriate subforum.

I am looking to buy a large blank in the size of 11 and 1/2 inches long, 1 and 1/4 inches tall, and 4 and 1/2 inches wide. Ideally, a burl with the possibility of shaving it to expose the wood. Let me know if y'all know of any vendors able to sell that size of a blank.

Thank you,
Fish

Good morning Anderson, and welcome to IAP.

The answer may vary depending on where you live and your skill level.

From my perspective, the piece you specified is not especially large. For a 16 or 24_inch lathe it is smallish.

I get much of my turning wood in rounds or thick planks or big chunks, and break it down. a fair amount is less than dry. These are mostly domestic local woods.

Exotic, fancy, and especially dry woods come with higher prices, and seldom in exact sizes. i get close and cut to what I want.

Wide range in prices, so the good, fast, cheap -- pick two rule tends to work. There is always luck.

So tell us more about where you are headed and where you are at.

Take a quick look at ebay. You will be surprised what you may find. As with any wood buying on the blind is sometimes tough. Good luck.
