Kit used: Chrome CSUSA Artisan Clicker
I chose the clicker kit due to the long body and design opportunity. The blank started as an El Mostro alumilite blank. I cut 13 even pieces from it and used 12 pieces of aluminum to segment (Happy 12th IAP!) it is a simple design yet challenging due to the exactness of the tube and the clicker kit gives no room for error.

As far as the blank, there was really nothing too special. Its was a nice piece of clear hard maple. The challenge was to get the cross to start and stop in the right place once the pen was turned. I added a red band in the middle of the pen to complement the red cross... and that I don't really like the bands that come with the pen kit.

Kit used: SPW Royale in Gun Metal
This pen is made up of 227 pieces and lots of CA. I first split a blank both ways and sandwiched a piece of plastic sandwiched between two pieces of wenge veneer. I then turned it round and drilled for the tube. I cut slices off the rounded blank and glued them on the tube, slightly twisting and alternating between slices of the blank and red plastic cutting sheet material.

Kit used: PSI Vertex Click Pen Kit
I like the simple lines and smooth operation of the Vertex Click. I also like the use of bird feathers to make a blank. The intricate patterns in the feathers are very attractive. I bought a Mixed Feather blank made by JohnU (member) which had been designed and made for a different pen kit. I added a piece of wood (Lignum Vitae) to each end of the blank so that it would fit the Vertex. No modifications were made to any part of the Vertex pen kit and all parts were used.

Kit used: Cigar in Chrome finish
The wood is Padauk with black and white plastic accented with aluminum flashing. The wide stripe is some 1/4" leather I had laying around. I used CA for my finish. If you like orange dust everywhere Padauk is the wood for you.

Kit used: Cigar Pen
This spalted Magnolia blank was cross cut from a large block. I stabilized it before turning it for this cigar pen. The finish is a CA/ BLO finish followed by Novus 3 & 2 and buffing.

Kit used: Satin Copper Cigar
This eight-loop Celtic knot started with an oversized (nearly 1") cherry blank milled to an octagon. The segments in the loop were constructed of colored veneer; a gray strip was sandwiched between two white strips, which then was sandwiched between two burgundy strips. The eight-loop knot was constructed just like a four loop knot, except there are eight kerf cuts referenced off of the octagon faces in a 1, 5, 3, 7, 2, 6, 4, 8 order. The pin stripes were made from the same veneer as the knot material. The kerfs were ripped the length of the lower barrel blank to a depth just short of the diameter of the brass tube. The finish was CA, and the plating is satin copper.

Kit used: Liberty
This pen uses Ebony wood as a base. I turned the wood down a bit past the bushings, sanded it and cleaned it. Then made a design in pencil on it. I painted it with acrylic paints and finally finished it with applying colored pencil to give it some depth. The wood shows through around the design so you get to appreciate both the wood and design. Finally sealed it and put a CA finish on it to protect the design and used micro mesh and water to smooth it out and finally I buffed it to a shine.

"All inlace with a little copper." Love to turn inlace acrylester, which I know some people hate. Wanted to do something with all the cut-offs so I glued up a bunch of segments separated by 0.025" copper sheeting, drilled out for the tube, then turned. Actually turned nicer than a straight piece of inlace, probably because I took my time with the copper segmenting. Thanks for looking!
