I am purchasing a 8" grinder soon, but which is the best system for sharpening tools. Wolverine looks good, but is at least twice the price of PSI's 4-piece sharpening system (all four pieces). For a pro, Wolverine may be the way to do (big name, you get what you pay for). However, has anyone ever tried the PSI set?

I read a previous post and have printed out plans for a wood-built jig to try out. but I wanted to get the general feel for what system everyone uses.

Andy also posted this link to a true homemade Wolverine clone.....all wood construction except for the fasteners.

I'm putting one together right now; but I may need to make some revisions as the plan in the new link posted by Andy has some good features.

If you have a welder and want to do a metal version, email wee willie in Ontario, Canada. He posted some pictures of a rig he built; but I can't find them right now??

Heeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyy, Willie!! How about adding a couple of those pictures to your album??[:)]

I don't understand why a craftsman that can hold a lathe tool in his or her hands and turn wood, presenting the tool at the proper angles and at the proper place on the spinning wood to make a beautiful object needs a jig to hold the same tool against another spinning object.

Any craftsman or craftsperson can present a tool to a grinding wheel within 2-3° of a given angle and move it in a uniform and desired direction. Putting an edge on a lathe tool is not rocket science. If you are off a few degrees one way or the other the tool will still perform it's intended function. If for some odd reason it doesn't all it takes is a touch or two to the grinding wheel to alter it.

Great site. I contacted them regarding some of the information and this is the response that I received.
John is no longer with us since last march.
May I suggest that you take the information that you can from his web site as it will be closed shortly.
Sorry that I cannot be of better assistance.
