What collet chuck for 1" +/- stock with MT-2 or 1 1/4 x 8 spindle

I am wanting to figure out what size collets will handle say 7/8" up to say 1 1/2" stock. Is that doable in an ER 40, and are ER 40's available to fit am MT-2 or a 1 1/4 x 8 spindle?

ER32 won't hold a 1" or 1.5" round stock. If you have long enough blank, you can turn a 3/4" tenon on one end and part it off later. It is best if you make that tenon at least 2" long, you want a good bite on the tenon when working the other part.

I just saw the 1 1/2" comment in the OP. The largest collet I can find for ER40 is 1.1875". ER50 gets you to 1.339" but I don't see an MT2 option for ER50.

1-1/4x8 using an er50 Beall collet holder will give you the large diameter you are looking for. Sorry I did not elaborate. Note Beall make 2 different types of collet holders er32 and er50

Just out of curiosity: Why are you looking for collet-like accuracy in this sort of diameter on a wood lathe?

Bill, I am trying a couple of different metal projects that utilize 7/8" stock and some precision wood projects that I want to use a collet on to see what I can accomplish--to be totally up front, I am trying to talk myself out of buying a metal lathe....
