Looking at upgrading my skew. I have a HF one and noticed today that CSUSA has the Henry Taylor chisels for 20% off. Probably 1/2" since tha is what I have now. What's everyone else using? Rounded, straight, curved, ect.... Any insight here would be great. Maybe these are not worth 2 cents? Maybe there is something else you would suggest. Any help appreciated.

Henry Talor tools are very, very good quality.I have used a 1/2" oval skew - Hamlet- Wit the ened rounded, or actually curved. I find it excellent for pens.Another tool you might investigate is Robert Sorby's Spindlemaster. Hamlet, owners of Henry Yaylor, has a verion of this also.

I have at least one of each type of skew.

For 1/4" I like round skew the best
Oval skews are ok, but they are hard to sharpen and are to light weight IMO
I like the spindlemaster the least, want to buy it from me?[;)]

My skews are ground with a Lacer curve, which is not to be confused with a Raffan curve.

The skew that I use the most for pens is the 1/2" HF skew.

If you are looking for a second skew, I would recommend one either 1" or 1-1/4" wide x 1/4 flat skew and then I would round over the edges and grind my own curve
