So I want to try my hand at segmented bowl turning, the really complicated ones. One of the key elements is getting the rings flat and smooth and of uniform size.

I ordered one of the Byrnes' Thickness Sanders to accommodate. I emailed Mr. Byrnes and he said it would work very well for the process of milling and putting rings together for turning.

Has anyone else done segmented lathe work using this tool? If so, what are best practices, things to watch out for, etc?

It's only 6" wide, that would be really limiting to me. I wouldn't use the word milling with this little machine. The 1/3 hp is going to be slow going. Just my impressions though, I've never used one. Good luck!
