This is the replacement I bought when my diode burned out. It has worked fine thus far. Might not be a bad idea to keep an extra on hand.

Nope, not much to go wrong there. Just loosen the two (butter soft, pot metal) screws in the heatsink and pull the dead diode up and out. I did take the back of my unit off to more easily reach the circuit board connector. Never have found the need to put it back on.

It was less time to buy an new one...so I did. I am going to see if it was my USB, but thank you very much for the reassurance and How To. That was going to be much next question - I guess you know MO by now. Thank you.

Well, I tried 3 or 4 USB cables, and it didn't make a difference. There has to be something better than a cheap diode.
