You might find both on the same lathe, but not in the same place. MT2 is bigger than MT1.

Taper......Large End...Angle From Center
#0.........0.3561........1.4908
#1.........0.4750........1.4287
#2.........0.7000........1.4307

In addition, notice the angle differences. You need the same taper male and female or it won't hold.

Thanks Ed
One of the tapers has a treaded hole on the small end of the taper and the other is solid and no treaded hole. When the weather clears up I will be back in the shop.

Thanks again

One of the tapers has a threaded hole on the small end of the taper and the other is solid and no threaded hole.

Ideally, all MT fixings with have a threaded hole in the small end. That so they can be used in the headstock with a draw bar. But some MT fixings don't have that hole - they are still OK for use in the tailstock, and they can be safely used in the headstock if the tailstock is used to secure the blank against the fixing.

But there is some risk involved in using an MT fixing without a drawbar in the headstock and without the tailstock to hold everything in place. Absent a drawbar, and without the tailstock, the MT can loosen and work its way out of the headstock. That risk can be managed by limiting the work that is done in that situation to finish turning and sanding of the end of the workpiece.
