I finally finished up my buffer yesterday and it works good. I took my old round tube lathe and shortened the tube, then turned a bearing pocket for the tail stock. I used a 1/2" all-thread, mainly becasue that was the biggest my Jacobs chuck could take. I have added a third buff wheel since the picture. This rig cost me about $25 Canadian to make, most of that cost was for the buff wheels.

Nice job. Looks good!!

Maybe you could post a close-up or two of the tailstock end of your buffer? I think that is the area that would give most DIYers trouble. Thanks.

These are not the best images, but all I have at the momment. I glued a section of dowel into a block of oak. I chucked on the block and turned a MT taper onto the dowel. I then mounted the block on the taper and turned the block and a pocket for the bearing.
