I recently posted a thread describing a problem where the crank on the tailstock would not turn. Since the lathe was still under warranty, I took the tailstock to the nearest Jet Service Center. The tailstock is fixed, but I wanted to let you know so you don't have the same problem.

He said (his opinion) there is a design flaw in the tailstock quill (? internal part that moves in and out when you turn the crank). The problem is that if the quill is drawn all the way into the tailstock, it essentially gets "off track". The fix is a washer or something to prevent the quill from being drawn in too far and getting jammed. He is making a recommendation to Jet to modify the design. He said that, in the future, I should be careful to leave about a quarter of an inch sticking out of the tailstock so I don't have the same problem again.

Hope this helps you avoid having your lathe out of service for several weeks!

Thank you. My 3 year old one worked fine. My new one's TS is a little sticky; I will call them. Thank you!
