Finding center of a dowel side?

What are you trying to do? If drilling, make a jig by drilling 3 equally spaced holes. Put a dowel in the two outer holes. Put across the piece you are trying to drill with one on each side and twist so the dowels come against the one to be drilled. The center hole should be on center of the dowel.
If you are dong something else, then disregard all previous instruction :)

Make a v-block to hold the dowel. Take one of your wife's credit cards and lay it on top of the dowel. Put on drill press. Lower a drill not spinning onto the credit card until the card doesn't tip one way or the other. The bit will now be on center. Clamp in place and drill.
