buffing systems

Can anyone recommend a buffing system or preferably a homemade system that fits on the lathe. I need something for that final awesome polish.

Yup. A 1/2 x 2 or 3 inch bolt & nut. Slide buffer wheel over bolt & tighten nut against it. If the buffer pad spins between the retainers, stick some CA glue in there. Use your scroll chuck or drill chuck. You will need to back it up with the tail stock to keep it from working out of the MT. After final assembly I usually buff the pen on it.

Harbor Freight must have changed their website. This is the link to show the buffing wheels. In the store, they come in a pack of 3 already.

I use it all the time. The only thing I didn't buy from Harbor Freight or Home Depot were the buffing compounds. I bought the real deal with those.

Go to HF and get the 6" buff motor(use the 20% off coupon) and get some good quality compounds(tripoli & white rouge is all that's needed) and two new quality wheels(concentric sewn & loose in canton or dommet flannel) and you are set to buff and polish to a glass finish with the correct technique and for around $50.

I went to Caswell for the buffing pads and I will go to HD for a 12" x 1/2" all thread rod and put it all together. Thank you everybody for the help.

I use a old pen mandrel and three 4" buffing wheel. Cost me $13.00. Look under finishes I post how to do it step by step under another guys Buffing thread he just posted today. Its cheap eazy to build and works great.
