How would you then flip the bowl to hollow out the middle? Seems like it would only work for creating a foot for the bowl, and then you'd need a chuck or faceplate anyway...

And since Chucks come with screw centres, I'm not sure I see the value of that device...

That style of center makes me nervous. For one thing, the head is too small to support anything other than a small piece of wood. If you got a catch in a five pound piece of wood you might very well bend or break the screw. Even if size wasn't an immediate issue, you will need to bring the tailstock up to provide support so that you didn't pop the MT2 out during a cut.

I'm a believer in using a faceplate while shaping the outside and turning a tenon at the foot of the bowl. When the outside is pretty much to shape I remove the faceplate and put the tenon in a chuck. Everything stays centered and not I can clear the center without worrying about flying objects.
