The New Contest Contest

Welcome to a new contest being offered during the 2015 IAP Birthday Bash, The New Contest Contest. This is a contest that allows members to make suggestions for a new Bash contest for the 2016 Bash and perhaps win a prize for their suggestion of a new contest. Confused yet? Let me explain.

The Birthday Bash planners sometimes struggle to keep contests fresh and interesting for the IAP membership. We occasionally get suggestions for new contests and if possible we try to include those that we can. We have a limited number of prizes to give out and a limited number of volunteers to run the contests so we have to be somewhat selective about what we offer. We attempt to offer contests that appeal to a large number of members.

Here is how The New Contest Contest will work.

In addition to the Universal Bash Guidelines, the contest rules are as follows:

There is a limit of one entry per member for The New Contest Contest. On February 15, 2015 members may post their suggestions for a new contest in this thread. The suggestion must be accompanied by a brief description of how the contest will be administered, what the rules will be, etc. These descriptions do not need to be written in stone but they should give anyone who reads them a pretty good idea about how the contest would work. Suggestions that are too vague will be disqualified.

Immediately after posting the contest suggestion in the thread the member submitting the contest suggestion is to email me at NewContestContest@GMail.com. The email is to contain the members real first and last name, IAP screen name, email address and shipping address. The suggestions of members who do not supply this information will be disqualified. Once I receive and open the email I will reply with an acknowledgment of receipt or disqualification. If the email or suggestion is disqualified I will explain why. Time permitting, members will be given the chance to amend their suggestion or email to clarify or provide information. No entries will be received after the thread is closed. The thread will be closed on February 24, 2015.

On February 25, 2015 all of the suggestions will then be posted in a poll for the membership to vote on. The poll will be open for approximately 72 hours. The suggestion receiving the most votes will be used for a contest in the 2016 Birthday Bash and the member who made the suggestion will receive a prize (prize to be determined). The member who wins this contest will not be required to run the suggested contest but may be offered that opportunity at the discretion of the Activities Manager.

The member who submits the new contest idea that receives the most votes will receive a Gift Certificate from El Mostro valued at $50!

The member who submits the new contest idea that receives the second most votes will receive a Gift Certificate from R & B Crafts valued at $25!

The member who submits the new contest idea that receives the third most votes will receive a 1# package of alumilite valued at $20.00!

Pen Stand Competition

Welcome to the IAP BASH and the Pen Stand competition for 2016.

This contest is geared towards all IAP members with the basic goals of being creative and encouraging good sportsmanship.

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members popular vote.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The Rules:
1) The stand must be made by you (the person entering the contest) from raw materials.

2) There are no restrictions on tools or techniques. Only material that is available to all turners qualifies ex. Wood and acrylic……
3) It is intended that you make a pen stand specifically for this contest. Your pen stand can not have been shown in any form in any way (on the web, in a catalog, at a meeting, whatever) before the contest judging is completed and winners are announced. This means you shouldn't make a pen stand that looks like one you've already shown somewhere. Push yourself and make something new and special for the contest.

4) The pen stand should be finished as though it was ready to be diplayed with a pen.

5) Contest entries may submitted after January 31 and before February 16 as explained below.

6) Only one pen stand may be submitted.

How to enter:

1. You will need to submit five pictures to enter.

2. The first three pictures should have the pen stand positioned flat on a plain solid color background and the pictures should be 800 pixels wide by 600 pixels tall. Rotate the pen stand in each of the three pictures so that all parts of the pen stand are visible in at least one of the pictures. The pen stand should fill the picture as much as possible. No props are allowed. Resizing and cropping of your photo are allowed. Adjustments to make the picture "true to life" are allowed (e.g. color balance or exposure adjustment), but should be minimal. Adjustments to hide things or make the pen stand look like something it is not are not allowed. If there is dust or flaws visible in the picture then (a) retake the pictures after removing the dust / fixing the flaw (real world, not photoshop flaw removal) or (b) submit as is. Contest chair reserves the right to crop / resize photos to bring them into compliance with contest guidelines. If you are cropping a photo of a pen stand to meet the size limit, all photos must be of the same section of the pen stand. No picking the best section of each side of the pen stand to submit.

3. The forth picture should be a shot of the pen stand with a pen displayed.
4. All pictures should be submitted as jpg files with enough compression to keep each file size under 256KB. Email your five entry pictures and the required information (see below) to penstandcontest@wherever.com The following information is required:

a. The material used and method used to get to the final product.
b. Your IAP user name and your real name.
c. Prize winners may additionally be required to submit a mailing address for prize delivery,
but this is not required with the entry.

5. All emails submitted during the contest will be retained by me until the contest ends. After the contest is completed I will delete all emails I have received as well as the email account used for this contest. I will not retain or share email addresses with anyone.

Judging:
1. Winners will be decided by popular vote.

2. Depending on the number of entries there may be more than one vote.

3. Pictures will be posted and voting will begin on Monday February 16.

4. Winners will be announced after February ??.
Rules are subject to change.

Format blatantly plagiarized for consistency -- and it looked pretty darn good

"Master's of the Universe"

"... To those that are overly cautious, everything is impossible!"
- Kahless, First Emperor of the Klingon Empire

In the spirit of the
IAP Collection:
"To document, preserve and display" pens that will inspire us to loftier goals...

A "Masters of the Universe" Contest will further this spirit.

In addition to the Universal BASH Guidelines, the contest rules are as follows:

1. Entrants are to locate a picture of an incredible, inspirational pen that was posted on IAP during it's first 5 full years
(1/2005 - 12/2009). (Pictures/credit of the original and subsequent pen are to be later posted together)

2. Using this pen as inspiration, turn a pen that has similar, recognizable characteristics of the original.

3. Simple reproduction is not the intent; what was done previously, should inspire a furthering of the original concepts.

4. Preference should be given to those turners who have passed on, but deserve to be recognized for their inspiration. Although,
this is not a requirement for submission.

5. Turners may not pick a pen that they themselves produced, and make a further rendition... However, it is hopeful that some
of our current "Masters" will look for those that inspired them, and carry their concepts to another level.

6. The pen must not have been posted previously.

7. There is no restriction as to materials, kits, kitless, casting, etc...

8. Entries are to reference the original posted pen photo, along with 2 photos of their entry.

9. This contest will be considered an "IAP Collection Eligible" Contest (subject to an advisory committee opinion/membership vote).

10. Entries must be sent in an the official ENTRY FORM. The contest starts February 7, and ends February 21 at 11:59 PM. EST.
A public poll will open on February 22 and close on February 25 at 12:00 (Noon) EST.

11. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place winners.

~Something else in 7mm Contest~

There are numerous types of kits that are available based on 7mm tubes, everything from key rings, whistles, seam rippers, razors, and many others. While not a pen these type of kits help us show off a nice cutoff or help us to sharpen our skills further.

This contest is open to all IAP members in good standing and of all skill levels with the basic goals of being creative and encouraging good sportsmanship.

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members' popular vote.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The Rules:

1) The final piece must be made by you(the person submitting the item) Blanks can be purchased or made by you using wood, acrylic or resin.

2) The kit used must be commercially available at the time of the contest. Any kit which uses a 7mm tube may be used.

3) The contest will be broken up into two categories,
Small Items- a finished turning where the tube is 2" or less (example key ring)
Large Items- a finished turning where the tube used is greater than 2" (example razor)

4) It is intended that you make a project specifically for this contest. Your item cannot have been shown in any form in any way (on the web, in a catalog, at a meeting, whatever) before the contest judging is completed and winners are announced. This means you shouldn't make a piece that looks like one you've already shown somewhere. Push yourself and make something new and special for the contest.

5) Contest entries may submitted after January 31 and before February 16 as explained below.

6) You may submit one item per category.

How to enter:

1. You will need to submit 3 pictures to enter.

2. Two pictures of the item itself on plain solid color background, minimal props may be used
3. One picture of the kit pieces that were used.
4. All pictures should be submitted as jpg files with enough compression to keep each file size under 256KB. Email your five entry pictures and the required information (see below) to ???@???.com The following information is required:

a. The material used and method used to get to the final product.
b. Your IAP user name and your real name.

These are outstanding ideas. I like them all. Maybe we need to extend the bash time to get them all in. Can we pick the best five we like. Not just one.

Non-Standard Profile Pen

Non-Standard Profile Pen

Welcome to the IAP BASH and the Non-Standard Profile Pen competition for 2016.

This contest is geared towards all IAP members with the intent to stretch artistic & technical turning abilities and to give them an excuse to put down their 3/4'' roughing gouge (you know who you are ).

Contest Guidelines: Each person must create a pen without adhering to the typical/intended blank shape the manufacturer imagined (aka: no strait barrels, no oval/ellipse shaped barrels). Each turner will use a combination of slants, concave, convex, Ogee, beads, coves, grooves, etc. This is not a beginner magic pen shape competition to encourage outlandish and random designs. On the contrary, entry pens should look comfortable to hold, well thought out, balanced, and fit the kit they are matched with. Here are some examples of acceptable and not:

Contest.jpg

The Rules:
1) Any non-slimline/slimline pro style pen kit may be used. No modifications. Must be commercially available.

2) Can be ballpoint, rollerball, or fountain

3) Segmenting is allowed, all materials are allowed

4) No CnC, magic pen jig, etc (do all shaping from skill)

5) Only one pen may be submitted per entrant.

Judging:
1. Winners will be decided by popular vote.

2. Voters should judge pens based on fit, finish, unique & intriguing design, artistry of blank, comfort to hold.

3. Depending on the number of entries there may be more than one vote.

4. Up to 3 Pictures will be posted and voting will begin on <Date>.

....enter the rest of competition mumbo jumbo here.

I am really liking the BOSS competition. It's like a mystery box challenge on Master Chef.
I'll likely not vote for anything that is not a pen competition. I'd be a member of American Association of Woodturners (AAW American Association of Woodturners) if I didn't want to do pens here.

Though, I suppose we do have an "Other things we make" forum. I could see myself voting for an "Other things we make on the lathe competition." Should be left nice and wide open IMO. I've already submitted my idea, so I leave it someone else to submit. Oh... I guess maxwell_smart007 already did. KUDOS!

The Fiery Phoenix Contest

Welcome IAP Members to the Fiery Phoenix Contest!

Just as the Fiery Phoenix rises from the ashes our members will be given the opportunity to make a beautiful pen rise from one that has been given new life.

Universal Bash Guidelines will apply in addition to the following contest rules.

The contest is open to the first ?? (probably 20-30) who submit a request to participate. A thread will be posted 2 weeks prior to the start of the bash with a contest description and directions for participation.

Each of these members will be mailed identical pens during the first week of the bash.

The challenge for this contest is to take the pen that they receive and create something new and more challenging out of it.

Here are the absolutes as it relates to the finished pen.
- Both barrels (or one from a single tube pen) must be used in some capacity. The tubes can be removed but the blanks must be used such that part of them are visible in the final pen. (For example, you can use the blanks for segmenting in a new blank, or cast part of the old blank into a new blank)

- At least one of the hardware components must be used and be visible. For example: If the participants were given a slimline (including nib, center band, clip and finial) at least one of these components must be visible in the final pen.

- Outside of the above, everything is legal. You can change tube size (or don't use tubes), change from a roller ball to fountain pen, etc. All materials are acceptable as well as kits, casting, segmenting, etc.

Participants will have two weeks to complete the finished pen from the date that they receive the original pen.

Four photos are required for the final submission;
- The original pen that was received by the participant
- The original pen after it was disassembled
- The new pen prior to assembly
- The final finished pen

Along with the photos a description of the finished pen should be included along with the creation process.

All work must be completed by the member entering the contest. (The pen must not have been posted previously)

Each participant will have two weeks to complete the finished pen and email the photos to me along with their first and last name and shipping address.

The winner will be chosen by open voting by the IAP membership.

Voting will be held during the last week of the bash starting on February ??.

Based one the number of entries multiple votes may be required.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

Rules are subject to change.

We could have a contest where a really good looking person asks questions. And then people guess at the answers to those questions and those who guess the write answer would be eligible for daily prizes! That's right I said "DAILY"!!! I just don't know what to call it yet........

If members can vote multiple times it is conceivable that all could be voted out. Then what would we do in February?:mad:

How about "The NEW IMPROVED Trivia Contest". It would be just like the "OLD UNIMPROVED Trivia Contest" we had this year except next year we would have a really good looking person asking questions. Maybe we need a pre-contest to vote for the best looking Contest Manager / IAP Member to host this new version.

The "Push Your Limits" Contest

In addition to the Universal Bash Guidelines, the contest rules are as follows:

1) During the Bash, try to make a pen that is beyond your previous achievements. You must expand your skills in some way in order to complete it.

2) There are no restrictions on tools, techniques, or materials except that you must try something you haven't done before. Examples include trying different techniques, using unfamiliar materials, making a style of pen you haven't done before, or learning to use a new tool.

3) You may enter as many times as you like.

4) You may enter a pen made for another contest, provided that the contest has concluded and anonymity is no longer required.

5) Trash talking is not allowed, but congratulations and commiserations are.

How to enter:

Post your entry in the open forum anytime during the Birthday Bash. Include a picture of your pen and tell the story of what you attempted and what you gained from the experience. Your experiment doesn't have to succeed as long as you learn from the attempt.

How the contest will be judged:

Your entry will not be judged by how beautiful the pen is, but by how much you broadened your own personal scope to make it. Your current skill level is irrelevant - we all have things we can learn. The goal is to progress the most.

Bonus points if you try something we haven't seen before.
Bonus points if you post photos showing your process.
Mega bonus points if others can learn from your experience.

There might be a poll. There might be a secret panel of judges. There might not be.

Prizes:

There might be prizes. There might not. Growing your skill set is the real reward. If you've become a better penmaker, then you win.

What I'm suggesting is not so much a new contest, but rather splitting the existing kitless competition into two: kitless fountain and kitless rollerball.
The two types of pens are different animals, each with their own parameters, constraints, and problem solving sets. Rules would remain the same. i.e. fully fabricated by the pen turner with the exception of clips and ink delivery system. Just my tuppence.

King of the Auction contest

1) Pens are to be mailed into contest host by the 14th of February. Late entries, lost by postage service, etc. - not accepted in any form.

2) Only 'purchasable' materials are to be used. Builder must site resources and cost.

3) Contest host takes pictures of pens from 2 predefined angles.

4) Pens are auctioned with a starting price to include shipping - keeping owners anonymous, and the pen with the most profit wins.
Overall Winner gets a '(year) IAP King of the Auction' forum tag, and 7 prestige points, redeemable for absolutely nothing but bragging rights. Prizes available if vendors want to sponsor - I image vendor sponsored categories like 'best made for under 10 bucks' or 'best segmented' rather than first/second/third. Pens that do not sell are donated to some local charity, Walmart, etc. - of the contest host's choice.

How about a steampunk contest. Some folks will submit the foil wrap pens, but as we know, there are some creative folks that could knock it out of the park…

Rules Refresher!!

Having just gone through the emails that I have received regarding this contest it is obvious that we need a little Rules Review.

We have had some awesome ideas so far. Keep them coming! I'd hate to see any of them get tossed out due to a technicality.

Thanks,
Mike

Thanks

The basic idea is have a dollar amount to not exceed to make a pen. I used $10 as a guideline but it can be $15 and so on. It must be bought materials, this keeps someone who makes $40 blanks from saying well I have $2 in materials so that's how much it cost. Can be you have to have at least one kit used, if you use a centerband from another, must have cost of both kits.

You are allowed to use a Found on Ground blank, but must put a cost on it. If you are in an area where you can find Amboyona Burl, you have to put a legit selling price for it.

I really like some of the ideas coming through. The ones that stand out to me is the "Pen Stand" idea and also the "Pen Box" idea. These things get overlooked when it comes to pen making hobby. I like the idea of expanding the mind past the dulldrums of making a simple pen. Incorporating a stand or box with a theme pen would show off more talents than just spinning a piece of wood. I could refer back to an earlier post I made about Jeff's SpongeBob Square pants pen. I hope some of these ideas do not fall by the waste side.

Concept Design Contest

This contest will assign a theme or concept that entrants will seek to capture in their design. The theme or concept will not be a style, like steam punk, but an idea, category, or emotion. Certainly any style can be utilized but the voting will be based on how well the design captured the concept. Some possible ideas might be:

Muscle cars
Summer, fall, spring or winter
Music (like rock n roll, classical, or jazz)
Emotions like joy, sadness, depression, or anger

This contest is open to all IAP members in good standing and of all skill levels with the basic goals of being creative and encouraging good sportsmanship.

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members' popular vote.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The Rules:

1) The final piece must be made by you(the person submitting the item) Blanks can be purchased or made by you using wood, acrylic or resin.

2) The kit used must be commercially available at the time of the contest.

3) No limits to material or equipment.

5) You may submit one item.

Email your five entry pictures and the required information (see below) to ???@???.com The following information is required:

a. The material used and method used to get to the final product.
b. Your IAP user name and your real name.
c. Prize winners may additionally be required to submit a mailing
address for prize delivery, but this is not required with the entry.

IAP 2016 PENtathlon

Welcome to the IAP BASH and the PENtathlon for 2016.

This contest is the contest of contests! Just like the Olympic Pentathlon, which comprises shooting, swimming, fencing (the epee kind, not barbed wire), equestrian, and cross country running, the IAP Bash has its own five event contest. The best part is, you've already entered this contest if you've entered 5 of the IAP Bash pen contests!

The five events in this year's IAP Bash PENtathlon are: [using 2015 as a model] Simple Ballpoint, Kit Pen, Limited Modification, Get it Done, and Antler Bone or Horn. If you've made a pen for each contest, you can declare your entry.

Contest Chairs (or five non-competing volunteers) for each of the PENtathlon events will serve as judges.

The Rules:
1) You have entered a pen in each of the five IAP Bash Pen contests that compose the PENtathlon.

2) You followed the rules of entry for each of the five IAP Bash Pen contests that compose the PENtathlon

3) You comply with the Universal Bash Guidelines.

4) There are at least three eligible contestants entered. If there are fewer than three eligible contestants, the PENtathlon will be cancelled.

How to enter:

1. You select one picture for each pen from the pictures you submitted for you rentry in each of the individual pen contests. These are the entry photos that you submit for the PENtathlon. They cannot be altered or changed from what you submitted for the individual pen contests.

2. The date of entry is one day after the closing of the last event in theindividual pen contests

3. Submit your five entry pictures via the OFFICAL ENTRY FORM and include the information requested (IAP user name, real name, mailing address)

Judging:
1. The five judges will each rank entries within individual events on a scale of 1 to N (where "N" equals number of entries). A score of 1 is deemed best in the event, and "N" is deemed least in the event.

2. The scores for each contestant are summed across judges within each event to obtain an event score total, and then divided by 5 (the number of judges) to obtain an average event score. Low is good;high is bad.

3. The average event scores are summed to equal PENtathlon Score. Low is good; high is bad. Lowest score is the IAP Bash PENtathlete of2016.

4. Ties will be broken by most individual events with lowest average event score.

Pens as Part of Art
My suggestion is that the pen in NOT the main object in the sumission but a funcitional part of the submission.
The art object could be anything with a pen forming a part of the summission (i.e. some one makes a miniture tree and one branch is a pen and other is a pencil)
The artist could incoorperate other items into their piece as long as it contributes to the over all function of the piece presented.

1) To enter the artist should submit up to 5 pictures showing the complete piece and then the different componets of the structure.
2) The work must be the work of the artist unless they are using common items (i.e. marbles, silverware etc.)

Thank you

Beads of Courage lidded bowl and box contest.

This contest is geared towards getting donated bowls and boxes to children in the Beads of Courage program.
All else is secondary!
For more info on the program see beadsofcourage.org

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members popular vote.
Being a firm believer in put up or shut up, I'll donate a $100 gift certificate, to a vendor tbd, as a prize (bribe?).
If this contest should be selected I would suggest the contest be started or announced/started as early as possible to allow time to complete .
Also to allow those new to bowl turning to get up to speed.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The Rules: (As few as possible)
1. Multiple entries are ok, in fact encouraged. Similar to voting in Chicago, enter early, enter often.
2. By entering you commit to donating your entry(s) to the Beads of Courage program.
3. Entries will be sent to a coordinator during or after the Bash to track and forward to the BOC office.
4. Prizes will be awarded after receipt of the entry by the coordinator
5. Entries not sent will be subject to public shaming and harrasment.

Guidelines for design:
1. Turned boxes need to be no smaller than 6" (15cm) in diameter. Larger is okay. Boxes should be at least X" by X" by X" (tbd).
2. If possible, engrave or burn Beads of Courage on the lid. Beads of Courage ceramic logo beads are available to incorporate into your designs.
3. Make sure lids are easily removable.
4. Finials or knobs should be easy for a small child to grasp and not too elaborate or pointed.

How to enter:
1. Submit up to 3 pictures.

Emperor's New Clothes Contest

Welcome to the 2016 IAP Emperor's New Clothes Contest (Emperor Pen Kit use Optional)

In addition to the Universal Bash Guidelines, the contest rules are as follows:

This contest is about talking up your pen to the ultimate, absurd level. The pen must be created by you, and all descriptive text must be written by you. You may submit up to 2 photos of your pen and a description of no more than 500 words. Your description of your pen should make it sound like it is THE MOST FANTASTIC, AMAZING, UNBELIEVABLE pen made since the discovery of rope. Your descriptions DO NOT have to be factual or even true, but they MUST NOT BE visibly, obviously false (i.e. you can't submit a plain maple slimline and call it a Honduran Rosewood Burl Kitless Pen with Solid Gold Segmenting).

The pen does not need to be made for the contest but must be made by the person entering the contest and not have been shown on the IAP or any other site other prior to or during the contest. If it is determined that it has been displayed on the IAP or another web site, it will be disqualified and any prize won will be forfeited. As a follow-up to clarify this, do NOT post a photo of your entry ANYWHERE until the contest is over and the winners have been announced.

Winners will be chosen based on the voting of the IAP membership. Poll thread(s) will be created with description text and Photos. Members will be asked to read the descriptions and view the pens, and vote for the entry that did the best job of talking up their pen. (See Below for Alternate Contest Format)

Contest and Polling timing and scheduling will be determined based on the schedule of the 2016 IAP Birthday Bash and the timing needed by the contest chair.

All entries MUST be submitted using the official contest entry form, and absolutely not posted anywhere in the IAP or other online forums (i.e. Facebook, club web pages, other hobby forums, etc.) until after polling has finished and the winners announced.

Alternate Contest Format:

Winners will be chosen based on the voting of the IAP membership. Poll thread(s) will be created with description text ONLY. Members will be asked to read the descriptions and vote for the pen that sounds the most FANTASTICAL. After Polling is complete, all descriptions will be posted with the photos of the pens they belong to.

Blast From The Past Contest (working title)

Blast from the Past Contest!

This contest is to see how far you've come as a pen maker...or to see just how far you'll go!

To start you must select 1 pen that you have previously made that was posted on IAP. Using the previous pen as a base line you must recreate that pen, but by using new skills and techniques you've developed.

There should a noticeable difference between the two...yet not so much that a connection between them couldn't be made.

For example:

If you created a sierra ballpoint with a commercially bought red/white/blue acrylic you could then create a similar ballpoint, but instead segment some red/white/blue woods. Or if you learned to cast you could instead cast a red/white/blue blank. Another option would be to create a kitless ballpoint out of the original blank...or combine the segmenting or casting along with the kitless technique.

To keep the interest going throughout the contest the contest chair will randomly post the baseline pictures as they come in. That'll give everyone something to think about while the contest is going on.

All entries will remain anonymous until the contest and voting has ended.

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members popular vote.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The Rules:

1) BOTH pens must be made by you (the person entering the contest) from raw materials.

2) The only restrictions are no CNC's or Lasers.

Labels, Decals, Stickers, etc are OK to use.

3) There must be at minimum a 6 month difference from the start date of the contest and the pen that is chosen as a baseline.

4) Remember that you are NOT making a carbon copy of the baseline pen. There must be noticeable changes in the new pen.

5) Contest entries may submitted after January 31 and before February 16 as explained below.

How to enter:

1. There will be 3 Pictures allowed. 1 of the baseline pen and 2 of the contest entry.

2. One picture of the new pen must be in the same orientation of the baseline pen picture. That way the voting public can easily see what changes you've made.

3. All pictures should be submitted as jpg files with enough compression to keep each file size under 256KB. Email your 3 entry pictures and the required information (see below) to (EMAIL) The following information is required:

THE Simple Flexible Repeatable Bedazzling Box Competition

The idea of this competition is to show how you ship your pens using a SFRB or something very similar in size with an eye towards helping others package and deliver their workmanship in a more appealing manner. This contest is not about the actual pen box, but the mailing box/container/package.

1. Simple - Is it inexpensive enough to be used with lower priced pens?
2. Flexible - Is it flexible enough to be used for higher priced pens?
3. Repeatable - Can other pen makers reasonably do something similar?
4. Bedazzling - Does it provide a bit of wow factor to those receiving it (does it make the recipient feel like they just got something special in the mail)?

All normal Birthday Bash rules will apply.

Winners will be chosen using the normal Bash methodology of polling members. Entries will be evaluated in accordance with the four qualities listed above.

Au Natural Innovation

Welcome to the IAP BASH and the Au Natural competition for 2016.

This contest is geared towards all IAP members with the basic goals of being creative and encouraging good sportsmanship.

Winners will be determined by posted poll of the members popular vote.

The final poll will be posted and the voting results will become public at that time.

The pen must be made by you (the person entering the contest) using materials found in nature in a unique way and a commercially available kit. Examples of such pens include pens made with gum ball or seed pod castings, feather castings, snake skin castings, bull pizzles, petrified walrus penis bones, etc. Entries should be judged based on the appearance, fit and finish of the pen and the level of innovation associated with selection and use of the natural material.

I just don't think I have it in me to embellish or make things sound better than they are.
