We expect to start Puzzle #8 sometime this evening, finishing sometime Saturday evening.
It will be a crossword puzzle and it will be used as a tie-breaker in case there are multiple players tied for any of the overall puzzle contest prizes.
Here's how it will work - you may start the puzzle anytime during the 24-hour window that it is active. It does not matter who finishes first. The bash server will record the time you sign in to start the puzzle and record the time that you complete the puzzle and get your completion code. The interval between those times will be recorded on the bash server and IF there are any ties, we will check those times to see who finished the puzzle in the shorter amount of time.
Sooooo - if you think that you might have even a remote chance to win one of the overall prizes, be sure to wait until you have a sufficient block of time available to work the puzzle before you click on the link and start it.
Everyone who completes Puzzle #8 will be entered into the random draw for an individual puzzle prize (unless you have already won one) - just as for all other puzzles. We are simply adding this tie breaker feature so we can be sure to award the overall prizes to the top 3 puzzle solvers rather than leaving that to chance as described in the original rules.
