Anybody have experience with this? Will it keep it's deep reds if it's sealed under CA or is that going to go very dark like the sticks I got were before I cut them?

I decided to try it out on a cheap kit. Found out the dark appearance is charring. I highly suspect the folks that harvested the wood charred it deliberately to enhance the color.
It would be interesting to know the whole story on this.
Also I found the wood had lots of cracks after I finished the sanding. I don't know if these were endemic to the wood due to the heating or it developed as I turned it. It still made a nice looking pen after the CA went on. Color reminds me of oxblood shoe polish.

This stuff must be a complete mystery to the community. I made a Polaris from it, results were superb. The rich color came out on this one and there was a black grain streak the entire length.
