Mylands Friction Finish does not hold up well to a lot of handling like a pen gets. It looks great when first applied but will wear off.

Shellac will darken from the moisture and oils left behind on the pen from handling and using. Most friction polishes are shellac based. Nice shine at the start but not so much later. Shellac or friction polishes are good for items that are not handled often. Just my thoughts...and others.
