Hi: in the process of sanding a light heavily pored blank in which I cut a Celtic knot in black veneer, the black dust became lodged in the pores of the lighter wood, turning it a sad grey. Any ideas how I might clean this up?

As long as you haven't applied a finish, you should be able to use compressed air. You could try some tack cloth but better of the waxy residue

Never sand when mixing woods of light and dark colors. Learn to use the skew. You might be able to save it with a light skew work. Always can build back up with additional coats of CA.

Contamination can also come from the metal of the bushings migrating during sanding into the pores of light colored wood.

Nice segmented work!!!

Seal and build a finish before sanding.

Shear scraping or negative rake scraping without metal bushings often works.

I have never been able to get better than about 60-75% removal of contamination with compressed air.
