I tried woe on poly the other day on a bottle stopper. 3-4 coats applied with a rag. All of the applications dried in minutes, but the last one was still tacky after a couple of days!! What is up with that? (applied with shop rags, let to sit for period of time)

How much time did you leave between applications? I've found it needs 3-4 hours in between coats (even if it feels dry).

Do you sand between coats?

Directions may say 2 to 3 hour drying time before reapplying. That is under ideal temperature, humidity, and using fresh poly. Have to adjust for temperature & humidity in your area may need additional drying time. Also, did you mix before using?

I have used wipe on poly for pens and stoppers.....

when I dip them... I wait a week between each of 2 coats

when I wipe them .....I wait 24 hrs in between each of 5 coats

I made hangers from threaded rods for the pens... so I do 3-4 at a time

I made a drying rack with dowels for the stoppers to dry on.

I am in no hurry and I pay extra for the patience.

YMMV
