After using CA for a finish I have started using a cream clear shoe polish and add it after the CA. While in the lathe I take a paper towel and heat up the blank then put a small amount on the pen then rub it is with the paper towel.
This is a trick from Woodcarving to add a luster.

Now am I crazy for doing this???

Have any of you tried this?

Use of wax to better control finger prints is a common practice for some -- I am still using the same container of microcrystaline wax for some years.

Or use a buffing finishing with carnuba wax -

Thanks I was thinking I was going mad.. ha
I do like the feel of the pen after the polish is on.
Seems like it is slicker.
I place it on with the lathe going then use a papertowel and a lot of pressure to heat it up.

I have looked for the regular wax at the local Grizzlys but they dont seem to have it.
Our Carving Club had a seminar last week and our vendor that we use had this shoe polish and he and others use it on carvings after they are finished with painting.

again thanks for letting me know im not nuts.

Someone posted somewhere once that Kiwi neutral shoe polish is pretty much the same as Microcrystaline wax and of course, it's a fraction of the price.
I bought some and it appears to work just fine.
