I am new to turning, so this may be widely known, but after sanding to ~400, I wiped it down with a dry rag and burnished it with the back of my spindle gouge with the lathe turning at ~800. Did this as I moved through successive grits. Pen stayed purple and finished real nicely. No need to put it in the sun between turning and finishing.

Hey PatsFan!
IS that really you?
I normally turn,sand and finish,
If they turn brown I put them in the sun.
They will turn back to purple even under a CA finish.
They don't always turn brown.
