I was given a blank made from an old rubber bowling ball, it stinks to high heaven when cutting it so I know turning will be fun.
My question is how to finish, should I just sand through 12000 and polish like I would an acrylic blank or should I put a CA finish on it.

I think I will use the drop off piece to experiment.

If it's rubber like you say it is then no, but if it's the acrylic ones like I have then yes it will MM just fine.

I would mm through 12,000 and then see if it looks like you want it to. If not, then maybe do the CA. It may surprise you either way. Take pics whatever you do, I have never turned bowling ball.

Typically, the rubber balls are material very similar to Ebonite, it's a vulcanized rubber. It can be sanded and polished to get a nice shine, and to maintain the rubber, since it dries out, wipe it with mineral oil occasionally. That will keep it from drying out and changing color.
