I have been doing a ca finish for a while with good
results. Now I have been trying the blo with the ca and
I keep getting a light haze somewhere on the blank. It
happens almost every time I make a pen now. I like how
blo pops the wood grain but why is it causing these problems?
I would appreciate ana tips you guys have thanks.

Paul, just a guess, but I think I remember seeing a post that ties the haze to excess BLO. Really buff the BLO dry before starting with the CA and see if that helps.

Paul,

I've had lots of problems with that. I also read in one of the threads that cold temps will make that happen as well.

My shop's not heated, so I figured I'd try CA again in the spring.

I've run into this and the term I've seen and use to describe it is "ghosts".
To specific example in pens that I notced it on where exact outlines of a fingerprint.
Others have explined it is moisture under the finish.

William, I do use to much blo (boiled linseed oil) in
case there's confusion. I bet thats the problem. I just
completely soak it in and then ad the ca. I'll try using
less next time thanks. Also my shop is heated so I don't
think its cold temps. It does look like humidity under
the finish though. Oh well we'll see on the next one.
Thanks everyone. I'll take more suggestions if anyone has
any more.

Bear in mind if you buff the BLO( and it will buff to a beautiful shine) that you are creating heat.
If you don't let the blank cool off you may trap moisture under the CA.
