I've been using a homemade lacquer-based friction polish, via Russ Fairfield, with equal parts of Deft gloss lacquer, lacquer thinner, and BLO. I was just curious how varying these elements of the mixtures will result in different results. Further, can one vary these to accomodate different woods such as oily or denser woods?

Thanks for any help in advance...

I tried that mix and didn't have any luck with it.
Probably my fault.
I've started using a Mylands system reccomended by the Guys at Woodturningz and it is a VERY close second to a CA finish.
The difference is Mylands is very quick and easy and repeatable.
I still do a ca finish but I know it will take longer.
