First Time Turning

How do I need to finish ebonite? Do I need to use MM or CA????? I've never turned any before and I've got a piece which a customer wants made into a pen by Sunday.

Personally, I would try MM first. My rule of thumb is - wood = CA, anything else MM. I always use wet MM.

MM and then Meguiars Plastx

What has worked for me is MicroMesh all the way to 12000, and then buff with Meguiars Plastx. You can get it at any auto parts store or Walmart. It is made for buffing out headlight covers, but it gives ebonite a very glossy finish.

If you want to go even further, you can use something like Solarez epoxy to give it a hard glass-like cover. That would not fit the Sunday timetable, but if you find you like working on ebonite, it might be something to consider for the future.
