I sand mine just like wood and mm to 12000. Then I cover with shellawax. Two of mine were donated to a charity auction this weekend and went for $200 ea.!!! One euro and one cigar. Kind of makes me want to go up in price!

I would sand it down to at least 1200 grit before applying any glue to fill any pores. I go through several sanding stages, then if I find it still does not feel smooth to the touch, I will apply a coat of CA glue to fill any pores or bristles and then fine sand it again. Then I finish it off with wax or shellac. :)
