Camphor burl CA finish issues

I got my hands on some beautifu Camphor Burl. It turned great and looks very nice. The problem is that after 3 coats of thin CA, 3 med CA and 3 more thin CA. It does not seem to taking on a finish. Almost like the wood is just soaking up the CA.

Has anyone turned Camphor before and has same issues?
I have used the same CA finish method for 3 years on over 100 pens and no issues like this.

Suggestions?

Only have turned one such blank, and it didn't soak up as many layers as you have indicated! Think it took in the first two layers of thinCA....and after that started 'building a finish' just fine with the thickCA.
