Tell us about your entry: In 1929 Sheaffer introduced the Balance, a slick art deco design that would head its lineup for the next 15 years. My version close to Sheaffer's classic Oversize model: 5 5/8 inches long capped and 5/8 inches in diameter at the cap bands. Before beginning I sketch the pen to establish exact diameters at precise points along its length, and then the surface is turned to those precise dimensions. The clip seam and cap bands are undetectable to touch. The cap and barrel screw together smoothly in 1 1/4 turns. The blood-veined green pearl material I used is the same celluloid Sheaffer used in their 1990s Limited Edition Millenium, a tribute to the original Balance. The clip is a rhodium plated Triton, and the steel nib/feed unit is from German maker Jowo. The cap bands are sterling silver stamped out of flat stock by hand with dies and a brass hammer on my bench.

Tell us about your entry: Custom Fountain pen that started with a black ebonite base. I then sprayed a black basecoat paint followed by different sized metal flake (the same as used in custom car paint jobs). Then I sprayed several very thin coats of Chameleon paint. Black ebonite front section with a satin finish hosting a #6 Two Tone Heritance nib.

Tell us about your entry: Inspired by the paint job on a hot rod at a local classic car show, this pen has been created from a custom burnt orange color with pearl highlights and solid black trim and front section. A matching jewel created from the orange body material tops the cap finial. A simple gold nib and clip finish it off.

Tell us about your entry: "Angels and Demons". Double-cast from black and white opaque urethane in a 360 degree tessellated pattern, this pen symbolizes the dualistic nature of good and evil. The images are the same on both barrels, but the black "demons" are more apparent against the white lower section whereas the white "angels" are easier to visualize on the black cap - a metamorphosis from one end to the other. I chose not to add a clip because I felt the imagery would be clearer without it.

Tell us about your entry: This one was difficult to make. It took multiple tries to get it right in a time crunch. I have wanted to make a custom with deer antler ever since I have seen wooden customs posted. I'm really happy with how it turned out! Deer Antler with Black Alumilite Inserts. No. 6 Steel. Meisternib. Weight: 24 g With Cap: 14.4 cm Bottom: 12.8 cm Cap: 6.5 cm

Tell us about your entry: This is my 6th kitless pen, and I tried out some new ideas on this one. I had never seen a coffee bean kitless before, so I decided that's what I would make. This necessitated a sleeve inside the coffee bean blank to add strength and allow for threading. Since I did not want the black Alumilite I used for the sleeve to show in the threading, I decided to make the barrel threads on the section, also a new technique for me. To complete the coffee, I used a nice coffee-colored swirly blank. This pen uses a JoWo feed, and, since I didn't have a gold JoWo nib, I fitted a Heritance nib to this pen.

Proper Credit

I forgot to mention it in my pen description, but the angels and demons tessellation is not my original creation, but rather a simplified version of M.C. Escher's famous design. So, I'd like to give proper credit - and apologize for my earlier omission.

Sincerely,
Eric
