Well folks, another contest is over for the 2015 IAP Birthday Bash.

Now its your turn, please select your favorite pen from these 8 entries. The top three vote receivers will be used to determine the first, second and third place entries.

I want to express my gratitude to all of the entrants for their work and wish them the best of luck. I know that at least one of the entrants has not previously posted a photo on the IAP; it takes a fair amount of courage to put your work out there for everyone to judge. Please show your support and appreciation for their effort by voting.

I wish the best of luck to all of this year's participants and look forward to announcing the winners on February 22, 2015 since a second round of voting will not be needed for this contest.

Thanks,
Michael

Kit Used: Euro 7mm

Here's the plain old Euro all dressed up in Amboyna Burl, segmented with Ivory. Carefully handcrafted and finished in a deep CA. The Kit centerband is replaced with one of Ivory, perfectly matching both barrels.

Kit Used: Berea Slimline

I removed the centerband and made the lower blank longer and fatter than normal. I then turned the lower barrel in the shape shown so that a portion is larger than normal. Then I bored out the enlarged portion to accept the upper barrel. The fit is quite close so that there is no "wiggle" as there usually is with the normal construction. The pen twist operates as normally and the pen is firm to hold. A few shallow decorative grooves were cut around the enlarged portion of the lower barrel.

Kit Used: 7mm Black Chrome European

The 7mm kit I chose is a Black Chrome European available from Bear Tooth Woods. The material is Alternate Ivory, commercially available from Exotic Blanks. For the modification, I chose to remake the nib from a piece of Corian. This was a fun project. I think this pen will stay in my collection for a while.

Kit Used: Chrome Slimline from WoodCraft

This Chrome Slimline pen came from a Woodcraft kit. I have substituted the center band with one of my own making. The center was constructed of layered aluminum turned by hand on my lathe. The main body of this pen is a Malaysian wood (not sure the species). The red and black segments are Blood wood and Wenge separated by aluminum sheeting. The pen was finished with CA glue polished to 12k grit.
