Source of component kit: woodcraft
Component kit: navigator
Cap blank: label casting of a photograph that I took while vacationing in Hawaii
Lower blank: mango purchased from woodturningz
Statement: This "Hawaiian Sunset" pen was made by label casting a photograph that I took on Waikiki Beach while vacationing in Hawaii. The lower barrel was made using mango. Mango was selected for two reasons; it complements the colors of the photograph and mango is grown in Hawaii. Irrespective of how this pen does in this contest, it has been dubbed a winner by the harshest judge of all- my wife.

• Jr. Emperor - exoticblanks.

• Custom/commissioned pen blank I made utilizing aluminum foil tape, "rivet" look with water transfer decals. Music written by buyer with a special request for a Leonardo da Vinci theme. The name and bat wing drawing applied to lower barrel and cast in PR.

• I select premium woods or unique materials for visual effect. Some are cast in resin for depth or to creat an illusion of texture, some mixed with color for creativity. These materials are processed, (segmented, drilled, turned, sanded and polished) to create a truly unique writing instrument.

My entry today is a rhodium Citizen fountain pen available at R&B crafts.

I started this design laminating black and white corian, then I drew a blank on what to do next so I stopped.During the wee hours of the night the desing came to me in a dream. So I woke from my slumber and got to work making it a reality. The pen you see here is a combination of Redheart for the body with Walnut scallops, trimmed with the Corian lamination. It is finished with thin flex CA.A beautifull combination made possible by a half nights sleep.

Best wishes,Dale a.k.a. spanx

This pen kit is a Woodcraft Rinehart RB with Gold hexagon fittings. The blank was made from mineral stained Spalted White Oak, and was hand formed into a hexagon without using a lathe only a 3/8 th inch bolt, 2 nuts, and a disk sander. The finish is 8 coats of thick CA sanded to 1000 and polished using One-Step Plastic Polish. I am an old school craftsman and enjoy using old hand tool if I can. Plantman Jim Schumacher

-Artisan Jr. Statesman II Postable Rollerball Finish Rhodium/Black Titanium From CSUSA

-The blank is Koa Burl.

-This is an ultra rare Koa Burl blank with a Rhodium & Black Titanium finish Jr. Statesman II Rollerball pen. There is a ton of depth and chatoyance to the wood. The longer you stare at it the more the tiny details pop out, beautiful stuff. I hope you enjoy it!

Kit: Black Ti/22k Gold Nouveau Sceptre Fountain Pen - Source: PSI
Blank: Stabilized Amboyna Burl - Source: Stabilized Amboyna burl blanks are available from http://burlsource.com but I got this one from an IAP member (I don't know if he did the stabilizing or not.
Statement:
This elegant pen was made using stabilized Amboyna burl that was just sanded and buffed. No other finish was used. I kind of like the matte, wood feel that it has.

My name is AJ Stensland, and my IAP username is Jellydonut. I am 15 years old and I have been turning pens since May of 2013. This kit is a Navigator Rollerball pen from Woodcraft, and the blank I used was a piece of stabilized buckeye burl (in its natural color) from Penn State Industries.

This pen is one of my best yet. The barrels end perfectly flush with the bushings, and the finish came out with no scratches or other imperfections. The wood is very beautiful and figured, with dashes of yellow peeking through the general green/blue of the blank. Also, the yellow section at the top of the cap adds a nice bit of flair and interest.

Thanks for the opportunity,
AJ Stensland

Desire Fountain Pen Kit from Lazerlinez
Black Ash Burl purchase entire burl and cut my own blank. Dyed and stabilized in Cactus Juice for 30 days with Red Dye. Scallops are 3 layer Pick Guard.
Pick Guard cut to 45 degree angle and fit in place.
Finish is Doctors Woodshop pen finish.

Michael Schmitt Pen Artist, I strive to purchase the finest woods available and fashion blanks that are made to capture my audience. All of my pens are made one at a time, turned with my skew only then sanded to 1000 grit. I then apply 5 - 8 coats of finish until I get just the right amount of shine.

Here is my entry for the Summer Extravaganza Rollerball Contest!
The pen is Tru-Stone Red with Gold on a PSI Broadwell Art Deco in 22kt Gold and Rhodium.
This kit is easy to assemble, really looks great with any blank, and sells very well. The Tru-Stone was purchased directly from R T Research and cut in my shop on a band saw using a carbide blade. Turned, sanded to 600, MM to 12000, and polished using Dr.Kirk's 3-Step Polishing Compounds.
