Turning the blank without a brass tube---and some words about "chuck safety"!!

I was hit by a Jacob's chuck this week, (bruised both hands, no real harm done) so I reflect a little on the PROPER way to drill on the lathe---focusing on a couple points for safety.

Excellent video Ed! I have in the past turned the tube and then painted an appropriate piece of wood dowel in different colors. Make each color stripe about 2". As you pass the dowel thru the blank, you can see the effect of different colors.
