PEN CONTESTS

  • Beginner Contest: This contest is open to any penturner whether you have been turning for 1 day or 99 years. The point of this contest is to be a complete kit pen with absolutely no modifications. This is the ideal competition for someone just starting out, but if you feel you are still new to penturning even after 100 pens then this contest is for you.

  • Advanced Contest: Welcome to the free-for-all contest. Whatever you create and want to enter is fine with this contest. No rules, no guidelines, just beautiful pens.

  • Segmenting Contest: The segmenting contest is open to any penturner at any skill level. The segmenting contest is a test of your skill at putting together a blank with at least two different types of wood or materials. These materials must be glued together and must contain at least two different materials. This could be as simple as a celtic knot or as complex as a Gisi design. This blank must be made by you, not purchased. Bring your best.

Contest Rules:

  1. Each contest is a penturning contest. The entries must write and function as a pen.
  2. The pens entered must not have been entered in a previous contest. The pen is allowed if it has been shown before but never in a contest.
  3. You may enter two contests. A separate pen is required for each contest. No more than one entry per contest.
  4. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
  5. Pens must be submitted no later than 10:30am on Saturday 18 May. Pen registration will go through Fred Wissen (PTownSubbie) and will have a small information card that must be filled out by the submitter.
  6. Have fun!

SWAPS

Pen Swap (PITH):

  1. Bring a pen you are proud to give to someone else and enter it in our Pen Swap (PITH).
  2. At some point throughout the day, numbers will be chosen from a bucket and pens will be swapped.
  3. Push your limits and bring your best.
  4. Entries will be handled by Fred Wissen (PTownSubbie) and will have a small information card filled out by the submitter.
  5. Pens must be entered prior to the swap.
  6. Have Fun!

Blank Swap:

  1. Bring 5 of your most cherished pen blanks and enter them in our swap.
  2. Blanks may be purchased or personally created.
  3. Blanks may be acrylic/resin/wood/segmented/alt materials or anything else that can be used to make a pen blank.
