Bob, both Dee and I were excited to sponsor this contest and want to thank each person who participated, and Bob you were simply the best.
We had 3 members who won twice and each one of them contacted me and donated their second prize to another member. It's things like that that make this the best forum on the net so a special thanks to, Fitty, The Penquin, and Gofer our dual winners.

Bob, on behalf of all the Wood Identification winners, I wanted to inform you that we will be donating $250 to the IAP on your behalf. In addition to this donation, I have worked out with our awesome sponsor, The Classic Nib, to offer you a $200 credit.

You've made this event the highlight of the Bash for many and we thank you. We will no longer go through life wondering what Hills Weeping Fig is, nice vs mean brown wood, or how much fat is in Karri (Eucalyptus diversicolor) wood.

Thank you again and we look forward to next year!

Bob,

This was a great contest. Not only by the people playing it but by you, Roy and Dee. I was fortunate enough to win but even if I hadn't won, I still would have had fun.

GREAT JOB! :bananen_smilies046:

Fitty, you are naughty.

I am absolutely overwhelmed by all the support you all have given me during this contest.

Thank you for organising the donation to the IAP and for myself. That was never my intention when I volunteered to run the event. I just wanted to contribute something to the Bash celebration.

Thanks again to you all.

Cheers,
Bob.

Thank You Bob! This was my first Bash and it had been a blast! You did an outstanding job with this. And thank you to Roy and the classic nib for donating the great prizes. Last but not least thank you to Fitty for coming up with a way to take care of Bob for all his hard work!

Well done to the winners and thanks to the sponsors.

I really don't have a clue when it comes to wood, so this one was way out of my depth.
But thanks for the learnin'

Well, well...! seems like our friend Bob as exceed many members expectations not that I'm that surprised as I have been "dealing" with Bob for some time now...!

He certainly is "cluey" about woods species and he had shown woods I didn't know he had but again, that is not much of a surprise as he gets them for everywhere...!

I now know that he can also "hold his own" when it comes to these type of challenges, they are always a lot more work than some may imagine but, the end result was supreme and as such, I congratulate Bob...!

Wood identification is a extremely extensive and complex world, I have know people that dedicated all they life's to the issue, that died of old age not knowing half of what is out there so, any attempt and or sharing of such wonderful issue with anyone interested, is always a positive thing, in my books...!

There is nothing knew that most know I dedicate a large part of my present life to the issue and utilisation of such special natural resource, some are more fortunate than others with what is around them however, many have surprised themselves when they started looking...!

Anyway, I'm pleased that Bob did turn out a great an valued addition to IAP, I hope we can all count on him, for years to come, as I'm also very pleased with the contribution/participation every made, towards the challenge success, so congrats to everyone...!

Thanks Bob, you're a champ...!:)

Cheers

Bob, we're not done giving back to you, the bash is not over yet. We have one more trick up our sleeves.

It is not

Hairy birch
Fat free low calorie wood

It is

Found in the US
Could be poisonous

Sorry Guys, had to go for a Specialist appointment yesterday and didnt get back until real late. Been doing other stuff so far today but let me think????????

Believe it or not I do remember reading on Wiki about this very tree that you are asking me, trouble is I will have to go through all the US ones to find out which one.

I have a feeling that it is the American Pepper tree, but not sure.

Cheers,
Bob.

One last Winner.

It happened.
All I wanted was one of the incredible Slate Thermometers that were given away as daily prizes for this Contest. Thank you Roy and Dee for this great prize.
As chair of the Contest I couldn't possibly win one of them, so had to tell all the winners how lucky they were each day.

NOW. Thanks to fitty and Roy I have one.
Fitty was a double winner and donated his second Thermometer back to the Competition and Roy sent it to me. I can't believe that I do have one.
This gesture means more to me than anything else that happened during the Bash.
A SUPER THANK YOU to FITTY AND ROY.

Bob, that took over 2 weeks to get to you, I was a little afraid it was lost in the postal service, now you have no excuse not knowing the proper temperature to turn Weeping fig:wink:
