Vertex Disassembly Question

Is there any way to disassemble a Vertex click pen without destroying the plastic click mechanism?

I had to tear one apart the other day due to a malfunctioning click mechanism (I assembled it before trying it out!) The plastic parts definatley got trashed when I pushed the click mechanism out. Don't see any way around it though. PSI was nice enough to send a replacement at no cost.
