How often do kits have issues?

I'm still new to pen making. This pen is the result of two kits.
The first kit had a transmission that move only a small amount.
It made the pen tip was exposed all the time.
I had another of the same kit. Just swapped the completed blank
to the new kit and got one pen out of two kits.
How often does this happen?

In my experience, not often... Doublecheck that transmission, it may just be a little stuck ... if it just refuses to budge for you at all, contact the seller or manufacturer and see if you can get the part replaced ... the higher end kits generally come with a decent guarantee backing manufacture.

Did you try the "bad" kit without the turned part (body) on the pen?

Sometimes transmissions can be a bit sticky at first ... work on it gently by hand.
