One of my turners brought this in. This is the INSIDE of the log, not the bark

This is the end grain...it is kind of pink

I've never seen anything quite like the texture on this log section.

I suspect that the wavy area is from a crotch section. It's not really a species specific thing, used to see it a lot splitting firewood in my younger days - Maple, oak, cherry, etc all had similar type thing.

Assuming it was harvested somewhere in your area I am thinking maybe a eucalyptus.

No matter what it is, looks like it'll have some pretty sweet figure.

I'll cut it up and show some better pictures of the wood. I was just mystified by the texture of the split part of the log.

I bet the worthless wood casters are liking the ripples--but that section would be a great background for pen photos or even a desk stand.
