Hello Everyone
I have a question I know this is not about pen making
I just had some wild cherry logs milled in half I'm letting them air dry in my garage I'm looking at trying to make a couple of fireplace mantels in a half round top and 2 smaller logs sticking out and holding up the shelf
my question is should I take the bark off now or let them dry a month or two
before debarking . I'm not going to use the logs with any bark just going to let the natural log show
so if anyone knows anything about this idea please let me know
thanks BillyBoy63

Remove the bark now. There will be bugs under it and it will trap moisture. If you are going to let it dry completely before use you will have a long wait. I forget the rule of thumb. (Every inch thick = X years to air dry)
