On January 7th 2017 I decided it was time to lose some weight. I was 270 at the time. Today marks the 18 month anniversary. I stepped on the scale this morning and weighed in at 185 pounds. Basically the only thing I gave up was soda's and sugar. I also walk a mile 3 days a week and do DDP Yoga every morning before work. I still eat whatever I want, but eat small portions.


The Before pic was Aug of 2016. After pic was taken this morning at work.


And for those wandering I was size XXXl and 44 waist before. I'm now XL and 35 waist

Congrats on losing the weight. I bet you get around easier too.
I need to drop at least 70 lbs.
Old, fat & exhausted is no way to go thru life.

Well done! I wrestled heavyweight in High School. 205 lb. Between Jr year and sr year I went down to 155. Not easy, and 40 yrs later I still see myself as at 205.

Congratulations--not just for the weight loss but also for sensible way you did it!! No fad diet--just sensible. I got the flu at the beginning of January this year, then bronchitis. Spent about 6 miserable weeks eating a lot of soup, bananas and oranges. Once I started to recover, I could not eat nearly as much as I used to, so by late March i'd dropped from 205 to 160, and holding there. Every time I carry a 5 gallon jug of water up from the basement at our office, I think about how heavy that is--and that I lost that much. Total cholesterol went from 205 to 136 on my last checkup, and my knees feel a ton better--unless I turn 3 pens in a day!!

Another positive, most of my pants will slide off without wasting time to unfasten them. Probably saves me almost a second every night!!

I donated all my clothes to a fellow turner that lost it all in a fire in Tennessee. I feel 1000% better and i'm sleeping better as well

That's awesome Ernie. I struggle with giving up sugar in my coffee every morning. My dietitian hooked me up with some dinners, that are paid for by my health insurance company. 20 meals total. It's great to see you've lost that much. Good job!

Congratulations Ernie! Losing weight is mostly mental. A lot of people don't want to hear that but it is true. If you can get yourself in the right frame of mind and discipline yourself to change your habits the weight can come off. It's so easy to just give in and say I'll do it tomorrow instead of right now. Good for you. Your posting will help someone who reads it for sure. Thank you for sharing.

It is funny I started about a month ago and am doing similar. The walk thing is hard because of my bad knee but I take a couple days off in between. Got 7 off and looking for about 25 more. I would be happy. The older you get the harder it is because your body does not burn calories as fast. Not going to get too crazy because do not feel like buying all new clothes. Just want the ones I have to fit better like they once did.

Congratulations Ernie,

I set a similar goal to stop eating sugary things. I'm only 26 but a bit overweight so I figure I'll get it off now when it's easier. Work helps as I walk at least a mile or two each night.

The sleep thing was my major issue. Before I lost the weight, i tried everything to help me sleep. The only thing that worked was self medicating with some Mary Jane. Now I need nothing to sleep. I get a full 7 hours uninterrupted with no issues!

Congratulations! You've lost a (very) small person. I know what a tremendous accomplishment that is. 85 pounds in 18 months by just cutting out a few things? I'm a little bit jealous.

I've battled weight problems my whole life. I had resigned myself to dying early and fat. My wife found a doctor and we have been both going. We have changed our life style. No fad diets but we have embarked as I said, on a life style change. My wife and I have each lost 90+ lbs. I was 352 and am now just peeking under the 260 mark. My goal is to get to 225 and evaluate. That may still seem like a lot but I'm 6'4".
