I went looking for some 3"X3" turning stock. This is what I found at a local supplier. These are cut offs which they sell.
All are kiln dried, 2.5" to 3" thick, the bulk are 32" long with some 42". Widths up to 5".

This is figured cherry..all from the same tree. I also grabbed some curly maple and one piece of black walnut(on the left). After cutting some bigger prices, there will be pen blanks and bottle stoppers in the fall off!
He also gave me the piece on the right in the pic. It is a 3x3 of very curly maple!

Nice score. Looks like some are off cuts from gunstocks.

Exactly Pete! This company dries the wood, rough cut the stocks and send them out to be milled. This is a good part of their business. Making stocks for rifles back into the 1700s. The war re-in actors are their main customers.
