The recent tornadoes literally blew over thousands of trees in Macon and surrounding areas of Middle Georgia. In fact, there is so much wood that the government officials don't know what to do with all of it. While about 80% of it is yellow pine and slash pine, there are also tons of pecan, oak (red oak and live oak), and magnolia trees. I did a couple of searches for walnut trees but didn't have any luck.

If you happen to live within reasonable driving distance, feel free to bring your pickup truck and a chainsaw. But, be warned .... when you're driving around looking for wood . . . and you see what people are going through .... you'll end up pulling over to help them. Collecting turning wood just doesn't seem so important after all.
