This past couple weeks, I had the pleasure of mentoring a Tech Ed student at the high school where my wifey teaches. The Tech Ed teacher said he didn't know much about bowl turning and this student's turning abilities were well above the other students. He had also received a lathe for Christmas!

He was an excellent student. I could show him a cut and he could duplicate it with just a little tweaking from me.
I had two sessions with him and he had one session between my visits which he sanded the outside, chucked the bowl, cut out the inside, sanded and was ready for taking off the tenon and finishing the bottom on the last visit.
A friend donated some maple and cherry so he could have some blanks without spending bucks at Woodcraft.
I learned he didn't have a bowl gouge at home and a bowl gouge has now been donated. I will go back Monday with a pyrography burner to show him how to sign his work and present the bowl gouge.
Thanks to my turning friend for the donated items

The bowl is Poplar and about 8" diameter. The walls are about 3/16" thick.
He will apply finish after the signing.

Well done Charlie. Your teaching skills show in the student.
High-5 to the student that listened and put his skills in the finishes piece.

Thanks for building a memory that can last a lifetime...….and be passed on in the future.
