This doesn't have anything to do with the recent break up does it? I know alot of people are super pissed because they can't see their videos or whole sites have become unavailable.

I'm much more concerned by the amount of money we owe China than their desire to run their own root servers. As of June 2005, we owe foreign governments three trillion dollars, hundreds of billions to China alone. I heard a projection the other day that at the current borrowing rate, we'll owe China over one trillion dollars by 2008.

I'm not an expert on government finance, but something about owing trillions of dollars to the rest of the world is a little disturbing. I know I'd be very concerned if I spent more than I made AND I had debt half again more than my entire annual salary. Hopefully, smarter people than me are sure that's OK [;)]

I get my data from:

I agree with you Jeff.

Maybe people should consider buying their tools now....I read that Yuan is getting stronger which will translate to more expensive stuff coming from China (where most of our imports are coming from)

Good side (I guess) is that hopefully we will see more "Made in USA" again afterwards.

I wish good luck to anyone who really thinks they can control the Internet and all of the spam, adware, and viruses. Maybe if the Chinese or Russians were running it, a oneway trip to Siberia or a firing squad might get rid of these people.

Jeff, there is a real advantage to owing all of our national debt to another country, especially one with whom there is a potential for conflict. It becomes almost a guarantee for peace. Should we ever go to war with them, they would lose all of their money. The bigger the debt, the less chance for conflict. [}:)]

Jeff, Funny thing is we loan millions of dollars to lots of other countries, maybe we can cut ourselves out of the middle spot and send them to borrow from china. [;)] I wonder when our govt will realize its about time to start taking care of ourselves and stop trying to be the goodguy to all these countries that take money and then say that we don't do enough.

Good thoughts Jeff and Russ

The Boys in the pinky ring club from Brookl'n have ways to collect debt.

Where as China is achieving conquest by economic liability.

Remember that old urban legend that they were going to charge us 5 cents to send an e-mail? Sounds like that might be a concern as well. Or worse, a world tax for selling a pen blank. I don't like it one bit.

China is also investing heavily in infrastructure such as high tech machinery. We think of factories with people sitting on dirt floors hand filing gears and such. The reality is they are getting more and more competent with manufacturing with CNC and robotics and such. They tend to make very special machines that do a great job at a very specific item. In an example, they make a certain type of titanium ring with cutouts and cables on the inside. I can't touch that stuff. You can't beat them on quality or cost when they do that. They're getting pretty crafty about that kind of stuff. They are poised to be the world leader here soon.
